A worthwhile goal can mobilize an entire community – much like our own mission at Opus bike. That’s why we have decided to renew our commitment to Santropol Roulant by providing the community organization with bikes and quality parts to meet their transportation needs.
Since 1995, Santropol Roulant has been guided by a simple idea: use food as means to encourage social inclusion between generations. By growing food, preparing it and delivering it to Montrealers, this dynamic intergenerational community aims to offer a continuum of services that inspire and engage. Each day, 26 volunteers help keep the operation running, including a veteran participant who continues to deliver meals by bicycle at the age of 82.
Their core activities include the “Meals-on-Wheels” program, which delivers over 100 healthy and nutritious meals to people with reduced autonomy 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year, including Christmas and New Year’s Day. This activity is especially important to the segment of the population, 80% of which are seniors, who are unable to cook or go grocery shopping due to health issues.
Supporting an organization such as Santropol Roulant through a donation of bikes and accessories that will ensure quick and dependable meal deliveries is therefore particularly satisfying to all of us at Opus bike.
In addition to a meal preparation service, Santropol Roulant brings together people of all ages and backgrounds, through a wide variety of actions. Initiatives such as farmers’ markets, organic baskets and workshops on bike repair and topics of interest to the community are all examples of initiatives put in place by Santropol Roulant that we contribute to as a member of the community. We are very proud to help support and nourish our community by breaking social isolation through food security.
